    Minimal Mac: Note to Self:

    minimalmac:

Here’s the deal, and I mean this with no disrespect and tremendous gratitude for those who show up here to read…

I write this site for me. Everything you read here is as much, if not more, a note to self as it is to others.

See, I don’t have any of this stuff figured out. All I’m trying to do is analyze and eradicate the things that cause friction in my life. I long to find ways to live a bit more simply and to perform a job at hand more efficiently. It’s not an easy task in our society, and I fail at it constantly, but I give it my best shot most of the time. I wake up each day with effort to be satisfied with no more and no less than I need. I then go to bed trying not to fret over not always being thus.

I just want to figure out what “enough” is for me.

I hope that my doing so out in such a public place not only keeps me accountable, and causes others to share their ideas, but also helps those who stop by.

I’m no guru. I can always stand improvement.

If I share a tip or idea here, and there is a better way, I welcome it. Please post about it, or get in touch, and show me how to improve.

If you don’t agree with something I have to say, address it with a spirit of respect.

But please do so with compassion and a general willingness to help. There is no need to call me out or take me to task or call me names.

    I’m human.

I have to agree with Patrick. The same applies here, only he has a better, more delicate and peaceful way of putting it in writing.

I don’t have that patience. It’s not in me. I am trying, but I’m not there yet. So, as I said MANY times, if you don’t like a post or don’t agree with anything you can stop reading the blog. If you disrespect me I will disrespect you WAY beyond what you did. That’s how it is, blame it on my training. I was trained to attack back if attacked and make sure you will never attack again.

    simplifyyourlife:

Analog Sunday is an informal idea to encourage people to take a day off away from all things digital. Any or every Sunday can be an opportunity to unplug, get off the computer, relax, recharge the batteries and take a break from usual computer based routines by engaging with the world in a different way.

I’ve been enamored with the idea of taking regular “digital sabbaticals” for a while now but have not really gotten the gumption to do so fully yet. Sure, there are days when I drop off of Twitter, etc. but I have not done any yet where I completely unplug. Perhaps, it is because I have been thinking of it in terms of a week, or even a weekend. That said, doing it for one day might be a modest way to start.

  • and the queue is gone...

Well, again… the Developing software, special forces style that I had for today is gone.

    Fuck it.

    I guess I won’t post anything today.

  • Dieter Villinger

Born in Germany in 1947, artist Dieter Villinger has made a career in making large monochromatic paintings conscious of their physicality and the spacial relationship between them and the environment in which they’re installed.

Of his work, Michael Hübl states:

By defining his paintings as objects, declaring them individual pieces, Villinger is making an indirect statement about the consistency and the presence of his paintings. Villinger’s colour objects are bodies, not surfaces.

Although difficult to see in these photographs, Villinger’s paintings are often quite texturally complex as explained in depth by Matthias Bleyl.

Images are copyright of Dieter Villinger & VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn.

“You don’t need to live out of a backpack or travel the world to realize the benefits of minimalism. Not everyone can, should, or even wants to live with twenty-five items. However, I believe that you can find more happiness and peace by simplifying your approach to life.”

The Lifestyle of a Minimalist Digital Nomad – and Why You Don’t Need To Be One:

What I advocate is the practice of practical minimalism, that is the application of minimalist principals to all areas of life.

If you haven’t read this article, take a 5 min. break and go read it. It’s awesome.

As all of you know, I am a sucker for tactical, rugged watches. They are simple, minimal and super tough.

  • Creepy Google?

In an interview in here, Google’s CEO said:

“With your permission you give us more information about you, about your friends, and we can improve the quality of our searches,” he said. “We don’t need you to type at all. We know where you are. We know where you’ve been. We can more or less now what you’re thinking about.”

If this quote doesn’t win the Creepiest Quote of the Century award, I don’t know what will.

I know how easy is to track people online. I know how Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Amazon and a zillion other sites collect and routinely sell your personal/private information to 3rd parties. I know how hackers (good and bad) use that technology to track people or to fool them, I know.

I am surprised of how little people using the services know about this and how willing they are to give away their privacy and personal information.

I SAID THIS BEFORE, PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM SOCIAL NETWORKS AND DON’T GIVE GOOGLE MORE INFORMATION OF WHAT THEY NEED.

Use an anonymizer when possible, clean ALL your cookies and browsing history EVERYTIME you finish a session. DO NOT give your address/phone/SSN to anyone (the people that need it already have it).

    Or, whatever.
