what if you could pay $29 a year (like a Flickr Pro account) and in return your account would be verified (telling the world it is actually you) and you wouldn’t see promoted anything. Thus, Twitter could keep serving those promoted items and charge the power users not to see them. I would guess that the ‘Pro’ accounts would bring in more money than the ads do on a month by month basis if such a system were to be implemented.

I agree with Ben Brooks.

Tweeter is heading towards a bad strategy in terms of ads and promoted crap. I’ve been very vocal in the past regarding ads, I hate them - really hate them and I would pay to have a website give me service without them.

The post makes a really good case about this.

On another note, what about Tumblr? I propose the following: You want a free account? Sure, Tumblr will give you one with every single feature and ad-free. However these accounts will have blogs running on less efficient hardware, with downtime and slow connections. Pretty much what you have right now. Pay, say, $30 a year and your service will be hosted on better hardware, better support, better connection, better uptime and some more stuff. All for $30 a year. How about that?

Via the Fifty Foot Shadows Post I linked to yesterday. This looks to be a simple solution to organize and present photos and movies on your iPad. A bit more flexible and professional than the built in Photos app.

To be frank, I have never really taken the time to investigate minimalist music.

But, with the World Minimal Music Festival coming to town, now is the time to check out the work of Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Michael Nyman and the likes.
