I've realized something...
A large portion of sites featured here are neither minimal nor efficient. I guess more than anything, I’m confused as to what the focus here is supposed to be. I came here with high hopes and even higher standards. Thus far, I have to say I am a bit disappointed. Aesthetically pleasing as a lot of the sites are, they do not even loosely represent what I could consider to be minimal.
What’s the deal with that? Does anyone else feel this way? What are your ideas of “minimalism”?
Minimalism should be…
“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”
From what I’ve seen, this site leans a bit more towards…
“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing left to take away, but when we are done squeezing as much as possible into a site and still be lucky enough to have someone misinterpret it as minimal.”
Anyway, feedback is always strongly encouraged.
Goods for minimalists
To me, a minimal website is about being “simple”, in form and function.
If it takes multiple clicks to get from one case study to another, that’s not minimal. If the presentation is flooded with too many layers of metaphors, then it is not minimal. Anything beside from that becomes too granular and subjective.
I think 90% of the sites submissions so far fit the bill.
