Arial looks like crap on your PC and you are blaming the designer? Maybe you should use a computer/browser that doesn't render fonts terribly instead. He has no control over your pile of crap computer.
he is remarking that it is a poor execution of the variables of web designer. all issues must be addressed as thoroughly as possible. to ignore this is a mistake, to argue for maintaining the mistake is ignorance.
designers, myself included, need to take into consideration all outcomes. designing one version of the scripting is an amateur mistake. several portions of coding are browser specific in order to anticipate different outcomes. with my word i generally focus on replicating the intended experience for each platform, and for those which it is not possible, i create either an alternative version or best-case conversion.
I'm confused... because I am a web designer, and arial is one of the most used fonts on the internet for a reason, it renders well and is available on every computer. Arial is a last ditch effort in most font stacks because it is the safest choice regardless of browser. What fonts render well if not arial? i would like you to post a list.
I seriously don't understand your logic. explain to me precisely how a designer would be able to know that on one persons pc, the most widely used sans serif font doesnt render well, when it does on everyone elses computer?
outside of creating a font stack that is friendly to all users, the designer has no other control over the appearance of fonts on a site. we simply cannot change how they render.
