As the saying goes, “If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.” With the type of content being posted on this site, perhaps I should not be able to comment.

You people are seriously missing the point. Again, while attractive, this site is NOT minimal. Not in the least. Define minimal as : Having absolutely no non-essential content for decoration or otherwise. Everything on the page should serve a purpose. Also, think of minimalism as a desk with not much on it. Everything should be hidden in drawers and cupboards. This site is a cluttered desk that I have no desire to work at.

In terms of websites being minimal there is a lot more to it. You cannot apply the same minimalist approach to something in the interactive space as something in a physical design space. A website does not need to look like a minimalist house featured in an architecture magazine. That’s not to say that principles of good graphic design don’t apply to the interactive space. By virtue of something being a one page layout it can be considered as minimal (but that doesn’t mean it’s good either). I think the point being missed here is that there is not one definition of minimal and when it comes to the interactive space, minimal is different.

As you say Brandon : “If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all”, but you did.
First of all, please excuse my bad english, i will try to be as clear as possible. I do think you are really missing the point too. What you define as minimalism is based on subjective criteria, there’s no rule, it’s a feeling. There is no way to define it, and people trying to do so are wrong.
Decoration is not allways the opposite of rationality. When you chose a font to fit the content of a book, when you set the grid system, or even when you set the text color to be pleasant to the eyes, as well as the background, it’s a decoration, but it serves the purpose to make the text easier to read. It is the same thing when you add elements at the bottom of the text, such as borders, it’s a decoration again, but it marks the end, it has a purpose. Colors, font weights and sizes create hierarchy, it is absolutely essential. When we chose to show lots of pictures on the first page, it has a purpose : make the content immediately visible.

Finally, minimalism is a “cursor” depending on people and contents, it’s not a graphic style on its own.
